Polyfoam® C-350 LJ
Application : Basements - Flat roofs - Floating floors-heavy type - Floating floors-light type - Floors
Description
Polyfoam® C-350 product is a solid insulation board (panel) made from extruded polystyrene with a closed cell structure. Products are delivered with the SE side edges (normal square side edges) and the LJ half-groove side edges. Products Polyfoam® C-350 SE and LJ are intended for thermal insulation of floors in residential and commercial/industrial constructions, sloping roofs between rafters, eventually at the level of top wall (roof plate) and external areas of cooling spaces. We recommend to apply such boards with the half-groove (LJ) side edges especially in case of flat roofs with respect to inversion layers, as well as in case of terraces and green roofs.
Utilisation
Floors
Polyfoam® C-350 SE and LJ products can be used as a thermal and acoustic insulation of floors in terrene or higher floors in both residential and commercial/industrial construction, if the declared compressive strength is in accordance with operation parameters. This product guarantees excellent thermoinsulating properties and high stability, as well as good impact insulation parameters.
Flat roofs
Polyfoam® C-350 SE and LJ products can match the requirements for the insulation materials of flat roofs such as low thermal conductivity coefficient, high compressive strength, very good dimensional stability and minimal absorbability.
Presented properties of these insulation products allow to use very effectively superior materials in case of insulation of flat roofs with the inversion layer structure that the hydroinsulating membrane can lay under the XPS thermal material. Thus the hydroinsulation material is protected against the thermic shock, UV-radiance and mechanical damage resulting in a decreased lifetime. Boards with the LJ edges provide perfect contact in gaps by which means can eliminate any relative movement occurred across gaps. The inversion flat roof system with the Polyfoam® C-350 LJ boards can use in case of flat roofs with a slope of up to 5°, with any type of the bitumen hydroinsulation or the PVC (polyvinylchlorid) hydroinsulation.
Pitched roofs
The XPS Polyfoam® C-350 SE and LJ boards can be installed above, between and under the rafters of slooping roofs because these products fulfil the basic functions of thermal and acoustic insulation. Alternatively, the boards could lay horizontally upon the roof plate under-deck roof system.
For an elimination of the thermal bridges in contact gaps we recommend to use boards with the LJ side edges.
Installation – flat roofs with the inverse structure
- Lay the Polyfoam boards so that connection splices should be justified and tight.
- Typically, geotextile edges are overlapped a minimum of 200 mm. The geotextiles provide filtration, separation, reinforcement and drainage functions. At the drainage edge of a roof this geotextile waterproofing membrane could be fixed to the attic and in such a manner to avoid any clogging and water accumulation under the insulation material.
- Install a drainage gullies with the grate provided protection against clogging with mud and gravel. Respect that all technical details must be installed in a very precise manner, namely in case of connection of the Polyfoam boards into gullies, whereupon follow the fitting and technological instructions of competent producer.
- Install a adequate backplates (125 mm diameter) under the concrete pavers, so that water can flow out and the surface can stay dry.
- In case of the cladding or covering areas with respect to the traffic load install please the armed and spread layers from the concrete which thickness, substance, stability and reinforcement must correspond to the project according to the design statics calculation and anticipated loading conditions.
- Cover the insulation material with a layer of round gravel, but this gravel layer must be min. 5 cm in depth.
- Prepare a maintenance schedule and an inspection plan especially in consideration of the hydroinsulation works, gutters, gullies and all important details.

Advantages:
- very low thermal conductivity coefficient - economic incentive of reduced heating costs is very significantly by reduced thermal loss through roof and floor
- high compression strength, low creeping by weight
- very low absorbability
- high dimensional stability in extreme temperature and moisture
- high resistance against repeated cycles of freezing and defrostation
- option for the layer reverse order – inverse roofs – it comes to this, that by the hydroinsulating protection we can minimize potential mechanical damage, effect of UV-B radiation or thermic shock
- The side edges of the Polyfoam® C-350 LJ panels are adapted to interfit with adjacent panels by created half-grooves, consequently the thermal bridges can be greatly reduced and the installation should be fairly simple as well
